Lost treasure (Junk Yard Find)

I found a 4dr Maverick with small bumper setup one morning at the junk yard while looking for a 2B intake and exhaust headers for a I6 250. This is SWEET for anyone that owns a 4dr Mav with big bumpers and wants to do the small bumper swap. The rear quarter corners are definitely made for a 4dr, very different from all 2dr Mavericks and different from a 4dr Maverick with big bumpers in height.

I did not find the Intake!!!

I am keeping my 4dr Maverick with the Big Bumpers, I am only going to place the Big Bumpers way closer to the body. This weekend I am heading to Doug's place to pick up my deck lid and corners then save some money to finally finish the body for paint.

how much they want for the whole car, and what condition is the body in? (the 4-door specifically. if its too bad, may be interested in the 2-door.)

I haven't called to ask how much it is, they were to busy that day. The two door with I6 engine is complete. The white looks as if it was on a head-on collision and interior is extremely damaged.

 

It is east of Austin TX about 5 miles from Bergstrom Airport on HWY 71 passed the new I-130 Toll.

I am just trying to see if I am lucky to find one. I used to have an early 80s to late 70s Ford Granada that had a stock I6 that looked to have a stock cast iron intake with a 2BBL carb installed without an adapter. This was back in the late 80s, I bought the car for $200 from an old man. I didn't pay much attention since back then I was a GM V8 guy and this was a FORD small inline six. Once my 71 Pontiac GTO was back on the road i sold the granada for $100. I just had the granada for about 6 months. Later in the 90s i borrowed a yellow mercury that looked just like the granada with the same setup. Maybe the setup was an aftermarket product available in the late 70s or 80s? Coincidentally both models had that setup. Was this setup popular? I dunno.

 

...and look at the Pinto beside it! Not that you would, but have any data on that car? It looks like a '79 or '80, it would be nice to know what it was equipped with.

Man what a tease looking at those dead Mavericks. Up here in the frozen North THERE ARE NO wrecks around in the bone yards that i know of. I wish i could haul every old dead Maverick and Comet out of the ground and restore them or if their to far gone then part them out till there is not a single part that is wasted. The more saved Mavericks and Comets on the road the better............. but i guess that would be for a rich Maverick guy to do!

 

Did all Pintos come with limited slip difs?

 

same here. i hate to see parts that could even remotely be usable go to the crusher. even rusted up fenders and such. i just think "make a patch panel and weld it on, and you got a perfectly good ________." if i had the money to buy the mavs, a welder, plasma cutter, body filler, and steel, id do it. id have so many boneyard restorations it wouldn't even be funny. maybe when i get my job after school i can start it up with a welder and plasma cutter. do some on the side repair jobs for people locally and earn some cash:Handshake, then build from there. id need to get a paint booth too, i guess... maybe its a bit too much to bite off for me. but we gotta have dreams

 

No, limited slip was the exception, not the rule.

If you are serious about that idea save up for a Millermatic 211 MIG Welder. This machine can run on 20Amp single phase 120V input or 25Amp single phase 220V input. This welder will make the job a lot easier with cleaner results on body panels. It is also strong enough for custom cage, frame, exhaust systems, and any automotive structual designs you want to fabricate. It can be setup for aluminum and stainless steel as well.

For restorations you would also have to invest on a bead blaster booth or sand blaster so your product can have a clean start and the finish results will be fresh and perfect.

I really miss having a shop

If only I could find someone with funds that would love to open a custom automotive fab shop. I have all the tools and equipment and what I don't have I can find easy.

 

That's a nice little unit, just what someone could use in a small shop or even your garage. To bad we all live so for apart it would be great to all pitch in to get a shop together. We could make Mavericks and Comets our main thing, that is when we are not working on our own cars. Oh well.

 

How 'bout that 65 Comet more-door next to the Mav more-door! Was it a 6 cyl or v8 car?
