Yep! I didn't expect to see another Maverick, and certainly didn't expect to see someone from MMB. It was a good time. I guess we both just recently heard about this big weekly cruise-in and happened to show up on the same night. Greg, you have a cool Mav too! Next time I hope I can see more of it before your son hijacks it. I would love to see more Mavericks show up at this thing. Every Thursday evening in a shopping center parking lot, on the northwest side of the Stage Rd / Kirby-Whitten intersection. in Memphis. Everything you could imagine shows up at this thing from traditional 30's rods all chopped and channeled to full correct restorations. Muscle, rat rods, bikes, customs of all kinds. There was a tiny Austin Mini, a giant deuce-and-a-half military truck and everything in between. At first I was nervous about bringing my car among all these beauties, but I was glad when I saw another Maverick. Both cars were pretty well received I think. A rusty old Pinto showed up and I started to feel even better**. When I got there I went walking around to check out the orange Mav I saw on my way in while apparently the guys around the orange Mav went to check out mine, then I roamed around all the other cars, so we didn't actually meet for a while. We talked about a Memphis area mini-meet again, which I still want to do, so I'm going bring up this thread again and see what we can do about it! **No, I'm not a pinto hater, I was just glad I didn't have the only car out there that's not a trailer queen.

Where were ya'll last week? We had a mini meet at Tupelo......there were only three of us that showed up, two with cars there. Sure would have been nice if ya'll could have came....
Because now I didn't have the only "not very cool in its day" car out there. I talked to the dude for a while. Nice guy, and he has some interesting plans for the car. Turbocoupe engine. I hope he keeps it looking exactly the way it does now...
I had planned to go, actually. But last Friday on the way to work I was driving "impaired" (by that I mean up too early, no coffee, and not parked on my usual side of the garage) and when I backed out I raked the side of my house and put a custom Sherwin Williams Exterior Latex pinstripe down the side of the car and bent my rear bumper bracket. Spent all the next day sanding and repainting my bumper, straightening the bracket and scrubbing the paint off.
Nice! I have a '76 wagon I am restoring, fully sandblasted/painted/restored front end goes back under it this weekend. It's a BUNCH of work, as you imagine EVERYTHING needs attention, but it's a blast. I gew up with both Pintos and a Maverick, and they are both wonderful cars. My Dad had a '70 Grabber he bought new in 1970, and traded it in 1981 - for a Chevy Citation mad. I had a new '77 Pinto hatch (my Grandmother bought me), then I inherited my Grandfather's '79 wagon. I also had a 1980 hatch for a short time. Chris
My best friend in High School had a nice Pinto wagon. It had the side panels instead of windows and the little round prt window in it. Was there a name for that car? I just remember I had a 72 Pinto for about 6 months when I ran a paper route after I came back from Texas. It was a 4 speed. I burnt up the engine coming home one morning. Ran the pore thing out of oil. It used about 2 quarts every morning. lol Any gas savings I might of had was spent on oil. I paid $75 for the car in around 83 clint
Hey go easy on the poor old Pintos. Just had my appraisal done for insurance and found out that our Mavs are worth the same amount as a Pinto in the book. Sucks. I wish the market was better for our cars.
I think he was just trying to get clarification on my "rusty old Pinto" comment, which I admit was a poor choice of words and didn't really come out right. Don't want nobody thinkin' I'm the Second Coming of TL or anything. I'd actually love to have a Pinto. Putting a ridiculous engine in a Pinto or Chevette is on my long list of things to do once I reach that far-off point in life where I have more money and time than sense.
Let me assure you - and I think others would agree - the more people find out about BOTH cars (and you guys are doing a GREAT job here), the more value they will gain. Sadly, though both cars have become "rare", that helps increase the value of those that remain. Have heart! Chris
