Sorry, i brought this up before, but I still havent figured it out and it has become a real pain trying to firgure out how we are going to get the engine lower or how high of a cowl scoop we are going to have to put on. (Don't want to have it too high since there will be a shaker on top of that.) Anyways, here are some pictures of my dilema. One is showing how far it stick out of my hood (and thats not counting the aircleaner and shaker on top of the carb), another one is of the motor mounts, and the last is of the engine itself. It's a 1970 351w with 302 motor mounts and v8 frame plates. If anyone sees anything that is not normal and would make it sit higher than normal please let me know. And any other ideas are still welcome. Thanks

doesn't look like the same setup as on my '75. my frame bracket sits over the lower frame extension and bolts to it, and then the motor mount sets over that. i would lose the plate with the flo thru water. you wont need it, unless you are doing winter driving in anchorage. also, your intake looks rather tall. what is it? it actually looks taller than my victor jr. your problem might just be a combination of small things adding up. your motor mounts look a little taller than mine, but hard to tell from a photo. how far above the front xmember is the crank centerline?

Yup ... you have the frame mounts reversed ... without a doubt. The tab sits at the bottom not the top like you have it.

If I switch those around will that help the height of the engine? The distance from the crank crossember is about is about 5/8th to 3/4s if i remember right, now positive, that was just eyeballing it, I will double check and make sure and get back to you. Intake is an edelbrock performer intake.

Either way you have to switch them ... Do the engine side mounts even sit flush on the frame mounts with them in backwards? The only way to check whether or not it sits lower is to install them properly first ... You should be able to jack the engine up and pull them off pretty easily ...

Switching them will lower the motor.

So just to make sure, are you saying they are upside down or on the wrong side or both? Because one said to switch side and another said to flip them upside down. Which one is it? If i do both it seems to not fix both of the problems that were mentioned (the tab and the offset) Thanks for all the input.

Distance from crank to crossmember was 5/8" with a 3 pulley crank.

Alright will do. Thanks a bunch. Hope this helps solve my problems. The engine had been in there before and we hadn't messed with those mounts since we took out the engine and rebuilt it. Musta been installed wrong before.

Flipped them around, didnt help the height of the engine much. Too little to tell if it even did. Decided not to use spacer anymore, even with out that still too high, so i'm still stuck. I'll figure something out though. Thanks for the help.

Does the motor look level sitting in the bay or does the nose seem to be pointing up?

It looks pretty level to me, we've tried adjusting it by rasing the back up and down, at the time of the pic, it looked to be at about the right angle. Still cannot think of why its sitting so high, I have moved on to other things (Cut shock towers tonight) with hopes we'll eventually figure something out.

I dont remember what was posted on your original thread but there are motor mounts out there that will sit your motor up higher like that. My buddy got a pair from a local auto store once. We had to go to several different stores before we found the correct ones.

Do you (or anyone) have a picture of a correct motor mount, so I could compare to mine, or even the dimensions of one? I dunno, it's worth a shot.

    how high can you go

The spacer is one inch and the manifold is a couple of inches also. I went from a Torker to a Edlebrock RPM. Height was about 2 1/2" more.
