My fiancee has a 1976 Maverick we're in the process of fixing it. its not in bad conidtion it runs great its just inside cosmetic issues. The dash has had a dash pad on it since he bought it in 2005. BUT the dashpad is literally black from being burnt by the sun and has 4 or 5 different cracks. we are wondering if that is an alternative to putting a new dash pad on there or if there is a way to keep one from burning and cracking?

Welcome aboard MaverickGirl! Happy to have you here. Yes, you can get what they call a dash cap and it snaps right on top of the existing dash. Looks like an original dash and quite inexpensive. Best thing is only takes about 30 seconds to install! Keep an eye on eBay, they are on there all the time. Usually about $70 plus shipping.

the dash cap only comes in black. sence you said it got burned black i have to assume that yours is not black. you can get a plastic dye that matches the origanial color that you can spay the dash cap with. i recomed geting sem brand dye. you can find it at most auto paint stores.

I've seen blue and brown on ebay also, but they've been $119. Still cheaper to spray paint it yourself. Welcome to the board.:)
