    Hello all,

Recently, I've had a difficult time starting my '76. It sounds like it's flooded, but when I pump more gas, it sounds like it'll start: eventually it will start. It idles just fine, but as soon as I press the accelerator and it starts moving forwards, it stalls. The alternator light comes on every time. After a few restarts, the stalling stops: this stalling only happens when the car is cold. No electrical issues have been observed, so I don't know what the alt light is coming on for. I'm not very knowledgeable about autos yet (I'm 16 and this is my first car). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,
    Liam McDermott

Sounds a bit like the accelerator pump in the carb. is bad.
While the engine is off and cold, look straight down the carb and pump the gas. Do you see a couple of streams of gas squirt out the sides of the bores?
Might also be a choke problem. Moe information from you is needed for these smart people to help you.

Could be just your plug wires, I had a similar problem after first buying my car. Hard to start, would stall suddenly, sounded like crap. Had me wondering what went so wrong so quick; turns out that four of the eight plugs on the distributor cap were out of sequence :slap:

Could be another issue entirely tho, but it takes like five mins to check the plugs, and it'll be a big relief if that is all that it is

First things first. Does your car still have a points ignition ? And has it been tuned up in the last few years ? Ditching the points ignition, replacing the plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor would be a good start.

The 13726548 firing order wasn't the only one used with EFI in Fords. The other order was used on non HO 5.0's with the exception of the 94-2001 pickup/van/Explorer/Mountaineer 5.0's. The 400's also used the 13726548 order as they had the same cams used in the 351C's.

Worry about points/plugs/pumps/pink furry bunnies - AFTER you properly adjust the choke and cold-high idle stop.
