Hi all. it's been a while and I have a question on my 76 Maverick.
It's a 302 out of CA and it has a lot of pollution control junk on it.
There are more vacuum hoses on it than arteries in my body. Smog pump and whatever else would have been on it from CA.
Can I pull all that, what has to stay? Can it all go. And just go to an after market intake?
I have not spent a lot of time on fords so I'm not sure on this what is involved.

    Thanks
    Ron

It is a federal crime to remove or disable any emission control devices that are on the car from the factory.
If it is for "off road use only" then you can remove all of it except for the positive crankcase ventilation system (PCV valve or exhaust type evacuation) and it will run fine.

On cars this old, rules will vary. In GA, I can rip all that off and no one will give a crap. I'd suggest you check locally. If the area you live in dosen't require any sort of inspection for cars this old, it's not going to matter if you take it off.

    Thanks guys.
I know every area is different. Of course I would never attempt to take off factory stuff because it is against the law of course. 1975 is when they kinda started the pollution stuff here and in western NY I gotta check but I don't think it has to be checked. I have a friend who does inspections and I'm gonna ask.

There is a $20000 fine and or 10 year sentence for removing or disabling any emission device. It is illegal whether your car is checked or not. Most states have fines on top of the federal fine.

I just thought I should let you know before you do it.......
One of my cars has no emission control devices on it - other than the PCV valve but it didn't come from the factory with anything on it. Emission devices were added by federal mandate in 1970 and later cars. California (the Republik of Kalifornia) added tougher standards and reqired more than most other states. If you have a California car you still are supposed to keep all that crud on and working......:coco:

Do what you want but be aware of your local and state laws.

Let them know I s#!t canned the EGR valve and that timing control crap on my 1972 Ford Maverick (it was a commiefornia car originally also, icing on the cake!). I'm sure they'll be beating my door down any minute now!

heck, the smog pump was disconnected on mine and didn't even have the belt running to it. I unbolted it and threw it on the ground in the front yard soon after i got it. it's still there. later on i took the bracket off as well. anyone need a smog pump bracket for a 200-six? I hear it's a high-demand part. I'll even throw in the pump for parts. anyways, mine's not ready yet, but arkansas doesn't even do inspections anymore if i remember correctly. our new 08 doesn't have an inspection sticker on it, and we got the antique tags for the mav without an inspection. besides, will they actually have a record of everything thats supposed to be on the car? maybe just leave some of the stuff on there? i don't know.
