Could be the solenoid. But it really sounds like you have bad battery cables and terminals. Buy some new ones and clean up the battery posts while at it. Might save you money in the long run.

If it does not turn over when you turn the key, and all you hear is a buzzing , you don't have enough voltage going to the solenoid, or a bad ground.
using a voltmeter, check battery voltage from the 2 terminals (+ & - ) it should be at or around 12 volts. leave the meter hooked up and have a friend turn the key, It should not drop below 10 volts. If it does, then the battery is bad. If it's not at 11 - 12 volts with the key off, it's bad.
    try that first.

mess with the maverick, you get the horns

1st, ck and see if there is fuel in the tank, and if there is, does it stink like an old snowmobile? if so, disconnect the feed line from the tank to the fuel pump, on a six, it's on the right hand side facing the engine. the feed hose goes through the fenderwell to the fuel pump. take a gas can and a length of hose from the can to the pump. now you have a fresh fuel supply. turn over engine untill you have fuel at the carb. (have an assistant pump gas pedal while you look down carb past the choke. you should see a squirt of fuel when pedal is pumped. NOW that I've given the proper explanation to satisfy the proper mechanic in me, try it the easy way.. get a can of carb cleanr spray and hose some down the carb. pull can away a safe distance and have a pal try to start it. if it runs bad gas/carb.. whew.. O.K.??
