okay so i can't figure out why they won't work. my dad says the button on the brake pedal has either gone bad or popped out of place. this is my daily driver and i need to fix ASAP. can anyone tell me where this button is located and how i can get to it? and what the hell it even looks like.

attached to the rod for activating your master cylinder is a clipped on metal device with two wires coming from it.it attaches to the pedal arm any parts store should have them in stock and looking at it in the box will probably help you find it faster

Take the wires off the switch and short them out. If your brake lights come on the switch is more than likely bad. If they do not come on, I would check your fuse and check the bulbs.

press your turn signal down( push it toward the dash) step on brakes and see if the brakelights come own, my turn signals would work but no brakelights, same bulb and wire works both so i was stumped for a while, I fixed it by pushing turn signal lever toward dash and pushing a rubber washer (like the ones for water fasets) in between lever and streering colum causing a constant presure on lever toward the dash, has worked this way for over 5 years, the turn signal switch inside your steering coloum under your steering wheel wears out and is hard to find a new one, I took mine out and taped on all the revets holding it together to tighten it up but it only tempararly fixed them, if you can't find the problem this may help, good luck! :)

interesting. i know about testing for a dead bulb by turning on the blinker then stepping on the brake. if your dash indicators are working correctly they will stop blinking when you step on the brake if you have a bad bulb. that could also be a way to check the brake switch? take out a bulb and see if the brakes make it stop blinking? i will have to try it and let you know....

Brake lights go through the "normally closed" part of the turn switch. You may need a new tur signal switch assembly.

OP, if you find out it is the turn signal switch, I just bought an NOS turn signal assembly and didn't realize it only fits 73+ Mavs (the wire connector is larger). I can't say it'll be cheap, but it is brand new if you need one.
