so im replacing the head gasket today. my question is can i reuse the head bolts for my 5.0 or do i have to buy new ones?

i keep getting diffrent answers from people checker tells me yes but then agian the just want my money. and my grandpa who rebuilt a couple engines tells me he reused all his head bolts on his car when its head gasket blew

I have always re-used them with no troubles. Some of the newer engines like the 3.8 have Stretch to yield bolts that are not supposed to be re-used though.
Good luck with it. Are you going to get the head check for flatness or cracks?

You can re-use your head bolts...You should buy new to be safe (I have seen the old stockers fail on rare occasion).Torque to yeild head bolts allways have to be replaced after being fully torqued.I would turn the engine through a few revolutions and be sure the connecting rod for that #1 cyl isnt bent and the piston travels all the up/down the bore without any crankshaft binding...

I'd reuse the stock ones. I reuse the ones on my race motor 3 times then replace them.:)
