will any problems happen when i put a 4bbl on a stock 2bbl engine my brother says that it will kill the pistons something about too much gas = hot witch over time will mess the pistons up i already have a Eladabrock intake on it with a 4 bbl to 2 bbl bracket with headers 2 1/2 pipe dual flowmasters is this true will it kill the motor
There will be no problems. Thousands of people have done this for millions of cumulative miles with absolutely no problems. Ditch that 2 barrel and you'll be much happier.
A richer mixture will run cooler...not enough air. A 4 bbl will be a good upgrade from a 2 barrel. Stay around 600 cfm or less
Your only problem is that if you still have drum brakes on the front, that will be 2 Xs scarier than they are now. Almost ran out of brakes and talent several times in the first month after putting the 4 barrel on the original motor in mine.... not kidding. Make that car safe ... newer cars have so much better brakes than the old ones.
Years ago, I had a Duster with a 318 2 barrel. Other than headers and dual exhaust, I put an Edelbrock 4V intake and a Holley 600 on it and from 11,000 miles up to 80,000 miles, it lived a happy life. :bananaman
I agree and I hate to make blunt statements (because they alway creep back to bit you in the arse) but the auto industry used 4 wheel drum brakes on a lot of cars for many, many years and those cars drove billions and billions of miles without any problems. The majority of people that complain about drum brakes not having enough stopping power either have worn out brakes or they do not have their brakes adjusted properly. The little 4 lug 9 inch drum brakes on my 72 Maverick will flat out put you through the windshield if you step down hard on them. The larger 5 lug 10 inch drum brakes on my 73 Grabber with the 302 are the same way as long as they have good shoes and are adjusted properly. One of the things that people also don't pay enough attention to in my humble opinion is making sure the self adjusters are freed up and working properly on these cars if the self adjusters are not free turning and working properly then your brakes will get out of adjustment in a hurry.
Yah i have a Granada disc swap done so that's no problem for me
Its cool that you have the disc brakes on there already ... one of the best things you can do if you are going to be out there driving with newer cars. A good point was brought up about maintenance ... Drum brakes are like a points-style ignition... they work pretty good when brand-new and adjusted right ... and then they degrade pretty fast. and now ... Back to the topic ... That 302 ought to love it. As others have stated, you shouldn't need to go over 600 cfm, and get a vacuum secondary carb. You will get good gas mileage if you can keep your foot out of it, and it ought to really wake it up.
