I'm building a Motorsport 460 Maverick, and am wondering if the front control arms will stand up to the weight. The engine is in, and I'm working on the headers, but my main concern is the control arms. I've put 1969 Mach l spindles and dics on the front. I also replaced the front coils with coil overs. Have a 59 station wagon 9 inch housing in after moving the rails & springs in, & can now fit 11.50/28.50/15 slicks. Starting on subframe connectors & rollbar after finishing the headers. Car has been a hassle so far, but I think it will be worth it. Thanks for any info. ............Bob

Since the Maverick and Mustang use the same control arms and the Mustang came with 385 series engine options I see no problem with the extra weight.

Hi again Guys....Thanks for the input. I did this on a 1968 Mustang Coupe, but had quite a bit more room to work with. Next project is a 460 Mercury Zephyr, and am working on a 1964 F-100 460 powered Gasser. Anyhow, back to the Maverick. I am trying to make it all look as close to modified factory as possible. I would like to end up with something that looks like Ford did it. I had to cut shock towers back as far as possible. I wanted to keep the front suspension intact.......so far, so good. Also cut out the box reinforcement?? between the upper control arm bolts & re=enforced this area with welded in plate(looking for every inch) I did however have to modify the firewall and floor tunnel.(C-6 trans would not fit) With that done, I could get the engine down in and have the starter clear the suspension. I removed what was necessary, and am going to replace it with firewall and tunnel section from a 72 Torino. One welded in and ground down, it should look factory. Will tackle interior fit(heater etc. later) Pics. will be forthcoming as time allows. How hard is it to narrow the rear seat frame & have it look stock? will that material weld ? Never tried that before.

Sounds like your one step ahead of most. You have taken on a great project feet first. Good luck with the completion. Welcome from Floridas First Coast.

Yeah, kinda ironic that this guy is doing more expert work than 98% of us, and the forum program automatically puts "novice" under his name.

It should say "Tight Squeeze Guru" or something like that.

I cannot WAIT to see some pictures of this thing...

Don't tell me you guys don't know that that has to do with the forums.
I'm not sure if you can do it being a "non member". One can change that by going to user cp.

I know the forum put it there... I just thought it was funny - you are clearly not a novice.
