When the car is cold i pump the gas three times and she turns on but i have to feather the gas or she dies. If i do feather it she will be fine when she warms up. Any time with in eight hours or so of being drivin i have to hold my foot to the floor to start her. So i had the carb rebuilt and she still has the same problem that and i have to keep neutral idle at 1200 rpm so when i put her in gear she will stay around 800 rpm and not surge. Any lower than that and she surges. thank you for your help.
If you are holding the pedal to the floor to start it, it is flooded. Make sure your choke is OFF when the engine is warm. When warm, visually inspect it and make sure it is straight up. You can loosen the three screws on the black cap and adjust the choke that way until it is off.
It could also be the fuel percolating out of the carb leaving the bowls empty. I would say the next time you drive it and think it will be hard to start again take a look down the throat of the carb with the engine off of course and give the throttle a little push and see if you see any fuel shoot out where the accelerator pump charge comes out. That might give you an indication as you ought to be able to just give the throttle a couple of blips and give the engine enough gas to start on I would think. Then again even if the bowls empty there still might be fuel in that circuit. Sorry, guess I ain't no help at all. lol clint
everything is a help. The bowl has fuel. I will adjust the electric choke. I just got the chiltons manual today. that should help. thank you all. Oh and the neighbor hood children get the paintball gun.
Unless I missed it, it would help to tell us more about the engine such as rather it is a 200 ci, 302 or a 460 stuffed down in there. lol clint
You may have more than one problem.Your surge may be caused by a lean fuel mixture or a low float setting(or both) When the engine is warm...the choke has nothing to do with it starting and running. When cold...it wont idle?..the choke needs to be adjusted and or you need to set the high idle so it will run with the choke closed...Otherwise it wont.Make sure the choke is not binding.(it and all its related linkage should work smoothly) Be certain you have no vacuum leaks at the carb base or anywhere else for that matter. Question...are you useing an electric fuel pump or a plain old mechanicle one??
yes. the carb just got rebuilt and it is still doing the same thing. the floats were adjusted down they were to high.
