Be sure to get a gallon can of carb cleaner and soak that thing at least 24 hours. If you have not taken one apart before take lots of pictures while taking it apart. A good suggestion would be to get a set of Ford Maverick shop manuals for you car. They have good break downs and diagrams in them. Follow the instruction in the rebuild kit and pay attention to the float settings and the accelerator pump settings very close. The accelerator pump gives the carb a shot of pure fuel each time you tough the gas peddle and if set up right really gives the car crisp response. Make sure all of the small passages are clear. clint
Berrymans is great stuff use it on everything of course I use to be able to get it in 5 gallon buckets but it is getting hard to even find it in 1 gallon buckets round here
in my opinion you should go to a library an find an automotive manual with 1970's carb adjustments, settings, and find a chiltons or haynes with very good details on carb rebuilds. mostly make copys, cheaper than paying for a whole manual if you only plan on doing this once. Learn from the books about everything youll need before you even start the job. Good luck!
think i gotta go find that book! i've done some snowmobile carbs but neve on a car it seems pretty simple cause its a 2bbl but I dont want to mess up. if someone have any other advices. thanks a lot
found a nice site tonight! that willl help me alot. what do you think? http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/pdf_documents/motorcraft_2150_carb.pdf
finally finish cleaninf that thing! it works great for now i managed to make the car run well but may need some fine tuning! however the problem do not seem to be 100% solved as the carb seem to fall short in gas at high rpm when full throttle! what according to you guys can be the problem? can it be a too low float? what will my engine do if float osnt well adjusted?
72 yellow Mav Grabber I own a 72 yellow with orange racing stripe Mav Grabber that's been in my family since it was new. My carbeurator is plum worn out. I don't know much about engines, but it is a smaller straight 6, 2-barrel carb. How would I go about getting a new/rebuilt carb for my car, and what would I expect to pay for the parts?? thanks, hubes
mine cost 50$ canadian but didnt include jets, float venturi cluster and adjusting screws. everything else was in the kit.
72 Maverick Grabber I am actually looking to buy a rebuilt carb that could be installed. I do not have the time or skills to rebuild one myself from a kit. We tried getting one directly from Holly but there weren't any available. My mechanic suggested I try this forum to see if there might be one out there I could buy, then he'd install. The carb is 1-barrel, engine is 200 CID. Any suggestions?
