well ive been refurbishing an engine and a couple pieces call for a seal removal tool. This isnt a valve stem seal tool or something like that...just a seal removal tool. So, im have a hard time finding one on the internet. Any help?
its not off of a 302, its off of one of my ford 4 banger engines so ill go out there and get some pics and post them. I dont know the names off the top of my head.
here are the pieces. the engine is a 2.3 im sinking into my ranger...im having a really hard tim trying to get those seals out, and i read the 2.3 service manual and it says i need a seal removal tool...and its been really hard for me too find one.
Just use a small screwdriver, and carefully pry it out. Sometimes, you have to work at them a bit, get the metal bent over and use some plyers to pull it out.
bend the metal? i dented it trying to chisel it out...the bigger piece in those pics sits right behind the harmonic balancer...so i dont want to have to bend the metal and all that...but i guess its worth a try if i cant find a removal tool.
The metal part of the seal, not what the seal sits in. Look at the new one, and compare it to the old one, and figure out where it sits, and how it needs to come out. All a seal remover is, is two hooks on a handle, the leverage of the handle bends and removes the old seal.
I usually take a drift and knock it out from the back side to keep from damaging the front surface. Clint
Your going to have to knock them out with something solid (chisel, screwdriver, punch, etc) a seal puller wont do much good for those off the motor and will probly just tear the metal .Ive changed a ton of the crank and aux shaft seals in 2.3/2.5 fords over the years.
