i have a holley 600 w/vacum secondarys have not ran it yet but every one i have talked to said that is the perfect carb for my motor.302 roller e-303 ford racing cam,289 peformer intake,e-7 heads ported, mallory unilite dist.
600 cfm. a holley double pumper will give you the best seat of the pants feel. a vac seconday has the potental to get you beter gas milage. a edelbrock is concived to be a easyer carb to work on, but in my experience it just doesnt performe like the holleys can.
Everyone told me 600 cfm is plenty, but I bought an Edelbrock 600 model 1406 (electric choke) and bought the calibration kit, and every time I did a mod to the motor or exhaust, I had to richen it up a bit. Eventually I ran out of calibration, sold it to someone with a weaker motor, and got a 600 double pump holley with LOTS more room for calibration. But, if I bought one new, I would likely go with a 750 Holley DP. Tried a demon 650 and it was too rich out of the box, but didn't mess with calibrating it because I was borrowing it while the owner tried out my edelbrock. He liked the edelbrock better on a stock motor, as did I on a slightly modded motor. So, I guess the Holley type carbs run a little richer, out of the box, but have a greater range of adjustability. So I recommend a holley, 600-750 cfm range. More like the 600 for your setup.
600 will be plenty for you and give you plenty of room to grow, especially if you go with a Holley. Edelbrock will be simpler at first, but you may outgrow it, and it seems most guys just end up with a Holley in the end, and then you have to relearn the entire carb. So I suggest you start with holley.
