k, I have never had the dash apart but I am trying to put in the 120 speedo and I cannot get the guage cluster out...... the speedo cable is holding it in there..... I can feel the two bolts but good luck getting a socket on there..... is there an easy way to do this.... please help
squall, do a search on "cluster removable" there is a great tech. page on the subject...frank... p.s. the two bolts you are talking about don't come out untill you get the cluster out.
is this what I am feeling directly behind the cluster? or should I be finding this lower along the cable?
White gauge article. See if you can find the post I did about the white face gauge conversion. I did a pretty detailed step by step there.
Yep, that is directly behind the cluster. Follow up the cable with your hand and there it is. -Corbin
Little trick I use is to unfasten the cable from the trannie first and pull it through the firewall with the cluster. it will give you more room to access the clip on back!
t...c...., good move. i did that and also had a clip on the cable fastened to the floorpan. squall, let us know where you are at on the install...frank... p.s. did you reset the speedo. i turned mine to ...00000.0...
Frank- My car did that all on its own recently. The worst part is I knew it was going to happen soon, but I forgot about it and then next time I looked, it had 7 miles on it! grr...
just got home from work this morning and have not yet tried again to remove the speedo..... last night i was thinking I was just go underneath the car and pull it but damn it........... it SNOWED last night..... not a lot, just enuf to cover the car in a light coating..... guess I am gonna have to put my work jacket back on is there a quick way to reset the odometer?
squall, i took the cyl. out that has the #'s on it and did a little manipulating of the #'s. my son took one and clicked it by hand while watching t v from 99,326.6 too 000000.0. ( boy had nothing to do )....frank...
not sure if this is rellevant... unscrew the 2 screws that hold the cluster in.... it will come out a lil then u need to undo the spedometer cable. it has a clip on both sides and both need to be pushed at the same and pulled out. my uncle had a hard time doing it the first time, but it was probably the first time it was ever removed, now its easy to unclip. hope im talkin about the right thing haha. as for the picture u uploaded ... thats not whats holding the cluster in.
an update eh..... I am replacing the flywheel so I decided that I would pull the speedo when I pull the tranny and I am also fixing the problem with my power steering and changing the speedo then.... been a long week. I decided to take holidays this weekend as I have not had a weekend off since january. they are talking the overtime will continue till late in the summer. sorry for the lack of updates but I have been exhausted. mind you the overtime money has come in handy plus we got a whopping 39 cent raise this week so that kinda helps. I have got my floorshifter (b&m) installed and my old linkage removed, plus I got a 20,000 btu transmission cooler, a griffin radiator, flex fan (thinking about taking it back and spending the extra money on electric) cause I don't know how I am gonna mount a shroud
