Ok guys it seems that if its not one thing its another , I had the 302 that was shaking , so I put the car up on jack stands and changed the flex plate and installed a new torque converter , started the car and it ran fine all the shaking was gone , well I put it back on the ground and went to back out the garage and its not pulling in any gear , I was told I could have busted the pump in the transmission ? I have installed a converter before but not in anything this old , the car drove into the garage so I am in need of your help again!
did you put the torque conveter all the way in? there should be 3 distinct steps that it has to go past to be all the way in. also is the trans full of fluid?
it went in 3 times as I turned it as far as I can remember, I pulled the trans again and checked the shaft to see if I could see any damage but it seemed to be fine, Put the converter back in for the 2nd time and it did fall in 3 times and still no pulling, It has enough fluid
how long was the old fluid in the trans for and did you change out all the fluid in the trans while you had it out?
there are two different spline counts for the input shaft for c4s. i think there is 22 and 24 spline. if your trans was the 22 spline trans and you put a 24 spline converter in that could be the problem. other wise i have no more ideas.
I was told that the trans is a c5 with a shift kit , Its brand new but sat for about 4 years before I got the car
ok the number on the side of the trans is (c8p7d027-a) I was told it was a c5 but im thinking maybe i got the wrong torque converter and it may be a c4 , Also are c4,c5 and c6 converters the same ?
Did you remove the valve body during the job? (not that you should have needed to with just a converter swap) If so, You may not have gotten the shifter linkage hooked into the plunger above the valve body. If you didn't remove the VB, disregard this entire post.
