So i took the Mav to the track Friday night here, and with brand new tires, i was blowing the new tires right off.... The uniroyal tiger paws.. lol, anyway my best was a run of 9.6 in the eighth with an 81 mph run. cutting 2.5 60ft times... horrible... she spun all the way through 1st gear and most of second then would hook, even with feathering. what do you guys think i will run if i bought a set of slicks and actually got it to hook? the 81mph tells me theres a whole lot more left since i was able to get that out of second and and some of third gear with none from the 1st.

Boy, its dissapointing... not to be able to launch and pull through all three gears.

with 81 mph you should be able to get low 8s with good traction and every thing else involved being right.

My Z car that hooks pretty well, pulls mid to high 8's at 84ish MPH. hope that helps. I will also tell you that i bought a good used set of 26" slicks for $100.00 at my local 1/8th mile track. There are deals to be had!!

I bought a set of et drags for $50 at the track. Some guy tried them and didn't like them. He was trying a different height tire than he usually ran. :) I've used the et streets and et street drag radials. I liked the radials best as they hels a higher air pressure and felt really good at the top end. With a 2.50 60 ft. time you are leaving a lot on the table. BTW Get rid of the flashing pictures. Hard time reading the post with the pictures flashing so fast. Reminds me of the psychodelic 60's.:rofl2:

yeah, i need to get that 60ft down to atleast a 1.7 or so, with slicks i should, the mav spun just leaving the stall, and footbraking it. 1st is non existant, i got the 81mph from about 150ft on starting in 2nd and then going to third. ill check out some people at the track next time and see if they know anyone thats selling... i cant justify about 500 bucks for new tires and tubes when i only get to go twice a year...

Make a friend and see if you can borrow theirs for a few runs.

I would jack mine up and let you run a couple times on them, if I was there.:Handshake

Hmmm...I could buy a new set, and "rent" to users at the track for $5 or $10per pass...

Not sure how many passes a set is good for, but need to get an estimate so I don't undercharge my new clients.

brand new tires have oils on them to keep from rotting out. until that stuff wears out, you are screwed..

do more burn outs and try to wash them a little.. also.. did you let air out of your tires? or run them at 32PSI..? letting the air out to abuot 18-22 psi will help you. I did a run with tires aired up all the way to 32, and ran a 14.6 and let out the air and ran a 14.2 not saying you will seet hat much gain.. but it does help..

thats why slicks are run with very low pressure... it allows the tires to flex and grab the track.

assuming you have a spool/posi or something besides 1 wheel appeal.
mid 8's should be had with slicks. But its all just a guess, only one true way to get the answer get-r-done!
there is ways to help the spinning with street tires, but those are secrets :rofl2:

I had nearly identical slips the one time I took my 75 to the track.
I had 3.00 gears, 14" radials, and a cam that didn't come on until 3k rpm.
I had to dump the clutch to keep it from bogging, and I lost ET if I shifted into 3rd, so I went through the traps with the lifters floating. Mine were 2.5 sec 60', high-8 sec ET, and low 80s MPH. It's been a long time....

I had 4.11 gears ready to go in, but never got to run it again with better gears and tires. I wish I would have. I can only guess what it would have run.

I'd like to hear more about how your car does when you get the gears/tires straightend out!
