i had my 302 heads machined for studs for roller rockers and they instaled a push rod guide plate but the push rods are rubbing on them and getting metal shavings every where. If im not mistaken originally there were no guise plates so why would i need them now? thanks for your help.

Wait! Are your roller rockers set up with the side rails that keep them over the valves? If they are you should NOT use guide plates at all, EVER! If the roller rockers are made without the side rails that keep them centered on the valve then the above advice is correct. BTW: Hardened pushrods are a good idea either way.
