I'm trying to remove an idler arm bushing (correct me on anything if/when I'm wrong) and I can't tell if I've got it out or not. The rubber within is out, do I press the new one in (see pics)? Or is there a metal insert still needing to be pulled out? I cannot tell if that's a metal insert/part of old bushing or part of the arm.

The metal piece comes out. The new one is pressed in and has stops formed into the side of the bushing so it doesn't go in to far. Make sure you don't install in from the wrong side. (mark it with paint)

Go to www.rockauto.com you can see pictures of the new one on there.

Any advice on getting that metal piece out? It's jammed in there really tight.

You can split it with a cape chisel or tail pipe splitter.
If you have a press you can just press it out with the appropriate pusher.

If you have none of the above mentioned...You can use a hacksaw.Put the blade in the hole.Attach to hacksaw and cut a split in the steel sleeve, you can now knock it out with a hammer.

Yeah the hacksaw thing worked for me, but end up having to cut two slots one oppisite of the first. If to do it again i think i will carefully try to use a saw zall
