I've been wondering about the ATF thing. I put some SeaFoam in the engine through the carb and the crankcase, and a third of a bottle in my gas a week or so ago, before I took the valve cover off to replace that lifter. I never noticed the SeaFoam doing anything - I certainly didn't get the large lot of white smoke. I think as soon as I get it running, I am going to change the oil most ricky-tick.

I got a whole new set of push rods in the engine installed today. As soon as my wife gets home, I am going to charge up the battery (I left the keys in it in the garage like a fool) and see how she does. I'll post some pictures later!

    Seafoam is snake oil.

My opinion, but many swear by it. I have soaked greasy parts in it and it didn't do anything to help them come clean.

    holy crap, it runs.

Well, I got a whole new set of push rods (Blaine's in Dallas ROCKS), and got her fixed. The cylinder fires, and you can certainly hear the timing off, and I think I have a clicking lifter. It has certainly got some power!

I got an oil change today from our local Car Spa place, and they gave her a little bit of a shine. They did a crap job topping off the fluids and the oil change, but I guess I expect more from people.

Firestone also kept one of my hubcaps. That was random. Conveniently, that technician went home early today.

Conversation of the day, at said auto change place:
"hey, our books only go back to 1989, does it take 5 quarts or 6 quarts of oil?"
"man, I have no idea. call autozone for what kind of oil filter it takes"

    Some pictures:

In the picture above you can see a bolt hole on the right side of that valve cover. The head of that bolt snapped right off when I was installing the cover. That GOD that the bolt hole on the head goes all the way through - now where do I get a set of bolts? :)

That was a lot of fun! I wonder what else will go wrong? :burnout:

Also, I took a small bit of audio of the engine - it's running alright, but it is in desperate need of some tune-up love. Here's a link to the mp3 of the engine starting up, running, and the exhaust. At one point in the beginning it gets louder - this is because I moved the mic closer to the engine.

That corner where your parked looks familure.
Nice turn out. You did good. (y)
Take a bolt with you to an auto store and match it.
I must be seeing things. It looks like there is a nut missing on the base of the carb.
The car looks like it wants factory caps. :)

gene you are right. it was missing in the first pic. if you look at the second one real close after everything has been reinstalled its there holding that bracket on that crosses the valve cover. good eye though(y). the sound of the engine definatley has an erratic missfire to it.
