One tab is broken off my washer bottle for my '72 Mav. Has anyone successfully repaired one? I'll reinforce the break but don't know what cement to use?
Since I'm always looking for the inexpensive solution, what I'm looking for is a cement that, with reinforcement, will repair it. Anyone? If no one has a suggestion, I'll try Super Glue.
use an epoxy based glue for plastic. you can get it at most auto parts for 4-5bucks. once its dry it is tougher than the original plastic. but i would also agree with finding a new one in the long term, but for now the epoxy will hold it for sure. i wouldn't use super glue.
Now i'm confused. You said your 70, and your asking how to fix this? Duct tape. Actualy I would think maybe fiberglass and resin.
Don't we already have a "Duct Tamp Mav"? I was thinking about fiberglass but thought it might be a little brittle. Don't plan to add a lot of thickness.
i would use a soldering gun and some donor plastic. we do this all the time in the body shop. for grills and bumpers and many other plastic parts
Thanks to everyone who responded. I appreciate the ideas. The soldering iron repair sounds good if I had some of the same plastic to add. I'll probably try some epoxy glue with a stip to metal behind the break to reinforce it. No Super Glue.
If you can find it, methyl ethyl ketone. It's great for binding most plastics. Just don't get it on your fingers.... It's kinda nasty....
