You read it right:hmmm: New intake gasket and a 750 carb thats been sitting for a while.

These are the only things different ^

Started the engine up and within 10 minutes, the temp was up to 230 so i went to NAPA to get another thermostat and the temp dropped to 195 or so. Took it down the road for about 5 miles and the temp reached 230 again:mad:

    Any ideas?

Could i have damaged the temp sensor?

Took a thermometer from my dads HVAC stuff and placed it on the motor. The motor reached 160 on the outside:16suspect.

mine did the same thing after changing intake. i had a bad pocket of air in the system. did you let it run awhile with the cap off to try and purge the system of air? that could be your problem.

I always keep the rad cap off until the thermostat opens. The coolant level will then drop, and the air is purged out of the block. I then add coolant until it's full, and replace the cap.

i always drill a 1/8" hole in the tstat in the postion that would put the hole near the top of the tstat housing. the little hole lets all the air bleed out of the system and the coolant will get to the t-stat it self.

Make sure the thermostat is in correctly - the sensor has to be facing the engine.

Make sure the temp gauge is right, too. I spent a lot of time and money once chasing a cooling problem that didn't exist.

well i know that the car is getting hot because after 5 min of running, im up to 220

Left the radiator cap off for 20 minutes and still having overheating problems. Should i leave it off longer than that?

Is the thermostat opening? You should be able to tell if you're watching the rad with the cap off. If you aren't watching, or have the cap on, you should be able to tell by feeling the top rad hose to see if it has coolant flowing through it. T'stats are cheap anymore, and they're cheap because about half of them are junk! Just buying a new one doesn't ensure it will work...if it's working, I'd check for an intake leak...or remove it and make sure the gaskets are on correctly. A coolant hole could be covered...I'd make sure the t'stat is working right first though...I went through 3 on my Mustang before I got one that worked!

    Later,

While it's off, measure the temp of the water and compare to your gauge.
