Mavericks/Comets/Falcons

first came the falcon then the maverick to take its place then the cometcame out on the body style of the maverick. both are good cars. i like them both.:Handshake

 

A comet and a maverick are still two completely different cars though...you cant call a comet a maverick or vise versa without getting into a bar room brawl around here

And FYI the Comet came before the Maverick, but assumed the near body style of the Maverick in 1971, which was probably what your post was intending in the first place...lol

 

maverick came out 1969 before the comet but i am glad that ford kept both

 

The Comet came out in 1960, the Maverick in 1969.5

 

Actually, the Maverick was designed as the "1970 Falcon"....

 

I think there actually was a 70 Falcon but it was on a Plain Jane looking Torino body.

 

So basically your saying the comet wasnt cool enough and had to copy the maverick

 

The Maverick, was suppose to replace that, but someone changed their mind. I have books from Ford, showing the Maverick, with Falcon emblems, stating "1970 Falcon"

 

Could you get a scan of that sometime?

That would be a cool picture to blow up for the garage wall.

Actually they had two different body styles in 1970. One looked like the 69 Falcon and the other (70.5) looked like a Torino except it was a post instead of hardtop

 

Thats the car that I remember. I saw one years ago - was order from the factory with a 429 - a real sleeper.
