I believe it is a bearing flange

    I have replaced the upper and lower control arms on the Maverick. I am looking for, I believe they are called bearing flanges. They attached to the dust shield and the spindle. They are triangle in shape. Does any one know.

    1. What they are called.
    2. What exactley is their purpose.
    3. Can they be left off.
    4. Where I can purchase them.

    The only triangle part I can think of IS the base of the spindle. :hmmm:
    Edit: I see 28116 might be what your talking about?

    Yep, Blugene I believe that is it. Now what is it. Can they be left off or where can I get them.

    1972 Maverick 2 door.Original V-8 3 spd std shift.Also a 72 one owner Sprint sporting a 351 Windsor
    Its just a stiffiner for the backing plate...You can leave it off.Just use washers on the bolts for the backing plates if your useing em.

    Are you sure, it looks like more than just a stiffener for the backing plate to me...


    I've been wrong before however.

    It looks like to me it is for keeping greese from flying around.

    It does actually but up tp the grease seal but wont hurt anything with out it...
