I bought a transmission today because the price was right here is the numbers D2AP7006AA 17 can someone tell me what I have and the value thanks Eric
Thanks Dave your alright even what they say about ya(just kidding I new) its a 1972 c6 . the guy told me it was out of his buddies 1972 Mach 1 when they put 4 speed in.I was hoping for a c4
the guy I bought it from insists its a fmx trans code he gave me says not I will look numbers for myself when I get a chance anyway only 35 dollars spent and its clean no leaks, just need to swap for good c-4
The easy way to tell the difference between the C6, C4, and FMX is: C6 - all aluminum - bellhousing cast into main body of transmission C4 - all aluminum - bolt-on bellhousing FMX - cast iron case - bolt-on bellhousing
thanks Paul when I get it home i will check better, what the pan shape and size is also,at the price and cold weather,he told about it and it was clean, only glanced knowing a deal but also knowing I didnt need or really want it

fmx looks like fmx to me will it bolt up to a 250 ,change behousing? thanks for any info.Still hasnt been warm enough to check vacuum lines on car
Yep, FMX is what it is - If that is a small block v8 bell on it then it will bolt right up to the 250 six. Getting a zero balance flex plate to fit might be a bit harder.
I'd keep the FMX, provided you can get a flexplate for it. Tougher than any C-4. But if you want to pay the freight to Louisiana, I'll swap you for a good C-4 that's ready to run.
I am still deciding I will have to get a 0 balance flexplate, the one on the c4 is differant? also the bell housing from mine wont work?if the fmx was from a big block. There is a transmission scrap shop close by,if I need these parts.oil is just starting to look brown in my c4 going to try part oil change and adjust bands when I get a chance.but its probablly to late my luck.I called the guy Ibought it from and it was from a 72 mach 1 big block engine bell housing is differant
That looks like a small bell FMX. I've got two of these plus one for an FE series big block. C-4 flexplates are different from FMX units.
It is really a matter of opinion whether the FMX is stronger than a C4 or not but I do know that the center support in the FMX is really the point of concern. That web breaks often enough in normal use that there is a "repair kit" for it. The kit consists of a special drill guide, drill, tap and a long socket head screw. With a weakness like that I put my money on the C4 every time. The only broken cases I have ever seen on C4s were from modifications to servo pistons running high apply pressures. I have never seen a C4 case break in an unmodified car. I have repaired a few of the cast iron cases myself in stock cars.
I got the c-4 transmission working good, the bands were out of adjustment and looked like they used the wrong kind of oil.so I wont need the boat anchor fmx out of the 72 mach 1, boy I am glad I know I would have spent more money having to change transmissions
