Maintenance records are the only way you can find out.

also if you look at the odometer and all the numbers are even across it thats a good sign if they are uneven its been flipped over.
my low milage is documented on my title and it says actual milage and the car has not been plated since 1974.

If it doesn't look like it only has 10K miles ... then it really doesn't matter if it does or doesn't. I'd rather have a sweet and care for 100K mile car than a ratty 10K mile car ...

The problem as you probably know is in PA. any older veh.,they just put milage exceeds mechanical limitation of speedometer (or some silly thing like that!) on the title, and if you have a true low milage car it's hard to get the title corrected...

With that mileage, there should not be any wear on the steering wheel (paint). Rubber pads on the brake and fuel pedal should not have any wear.

All good advice so far .... (y)

A car with that low of mileage should have many original parts that it left the factory with that otherwise would have been replaced on a car with 100,000+ miles. Look for the original Autolite date coded plug wires. Factory hoses with the factory clamps. Original major parts like alternator, starter, radiator, carb, ect.... would all be good clues.

The interiors really give it away. As said, look at the rubber on the pedals and especially look at the door sill scuff plates and seats. One of my cars was parked around 1984 and only had about 12,600 miles on it and the interior looked like new once I cleaned the dust off it.

    Post some pictures.

If this is the red maverick that was posted on the PA Craigslist a while back, then it was discussed in a previous thread within the last month. I think the consensus was that there were a lot of questions concerning the actual mileage. Take a look for the past thread.

There should not be to many signs of ware and tear. Seats, armrest, carpet, steering wheel and horn pad, pedals, ash tray still clean. Check doors and hinges for tight operation, trunk and hood. Check glass for Ford script and side windows for up/down operation. Orginal spare tire/jack still in trunk? Air in spare? Engine compartment: orginal belts, carburator, engine decals, oil filter, radiator/hoses. Take a good look at nuts and bolts, sometimes you tell if a socket or a screwdriver was used. Buying from the orginal owner and having the orginal tires is a good sign! Mabe pop a wheel cover off to see if any lugs are rounded. I know the orginal battery is gone but you can check to see if the cables and connectors are Ford and not aftermarket replacement.
