hey guys my mav will have around 300hp and i was wondering whats a good locker out there?

Also i'm thinking about getting 4-10 gears, do you think they will run good with a 4speed toploader tranny?

Last thing is does anybody have the flowmaster 40 series street/strip mufflers? if you do, do they sound good or are they pretty loud for a everyday driver? Thanks alot

I dont know nuff bout Lockers to advise you. I used to have 4:11 gears, little bit too low for highway use. Last year I went to 3:70 gears and am much happier. I also have a toploader 4 gear. I have 40 series Flowmasters. 3" exhaust, car is very loud and I would quiet it down if I had to drive it everyday. If I drive down the highway I put earplugs in lol. But it sure gets peoples attn when they hear it.

Are you running 9" or 8" rear? I have a good source for 9" Detroit Lockers and gears that are NASCAR take-outs for about 40% off new. I am running a set of them (4.57 and locker) in my Mav now. My Mav is track only. I am not sure I would want the cluncking on the street for a daily driver, but that is just me.

I also have 40 series Flowmasters with dumps on my Mav. Too loud inside for me for everyday driving. Again - that is just my opinion. I have 40 series Flowmasters on my truck with full pipes out the back. The pipes definately cut down on the interior resonance.

I'm been using the Ford Motorsport Soft-Locker for almost 2 years now and am very impressed with it. Its very quiet and takes corners fine...but just step on a little and it lets you know its there quick. I like it infinatly better than my old trac-loc...

I have 3" and 40 series Flowmasters on mine.
They are really loud, but boy people sure turn to look.
A few things before any recommendations.
What is your engine like? (camshaft, heads, bottom end, headers, etc.)
    What does your car weigh?
    Is this a daily driver?
    What transmission?
How do you want the car to behave?
What tires are you going to run?
That's all for now. let us know that stuff and I'm sure we'll all start spitting out ideas and experiences.

Two 1973 LDO Mavericks (one 4 Drag one 4 driving like Mad on the roads :) ) also have a 75 6cyl Stock! Ok, well sort of Stock :P
i went with 50 series flowmastes in one car. (pic on left) in fact ones for SUV's just to shut the thing up! and damn! they are still loud! it would drive me crazy if i drove the thing everyday! :smash: :slap: the cutdowns don't help either nor does the 3 inch piping after the x pipe. just a little fyi.. flowmasters with an X pipe don't sound like flowmasters at all.. actually i like that ;) other wise they just sound like another stock mustang with flowmasters :D

if you want quite.. i'd go with a magnaflow hands down! (y) (pic on right) that is the most quiet performance muffer i have ever heard. a bit too quite for me but i could learn to live with driving it everyday.

i guess the saying is true if its to loud your too old! i must be getting old!

as for gears.. you really gotta tell everyone like what courier11sec said... what does your car have... cam, stall, etc

I install a lot of flowmasters and it's been my experience so far that people dont realize the resonance that appears after you put them in. If possible, ride in and even drive a similar car witha similar exhaust to what you want before you do it.
I've had a bunch of people come back to me after the initial novelty of a hot sounding car wears off and ask me to get rid of that " pounding feeling and sound in the cab.
Since I always make sure they know there will be a resonance before I put flowmasters on something, they end up having to pay all over again. That's not any fun.

-i have a high lift comp cam, hooker comp headers, holley 650 double pumper, new intake manifold, hays performance clutch, 4 speed toploader
    - it will probably weigh around 3200 lbs
    -11inch wide rims
-i want the car to have a rumble and people be able to hear me when im coming, but it is an everyday driver so it cant be outrageous
-i think im gonna have 2 1/2 tubing
    - i want gears that when i step on it it will leave some rubber, but will drive nice at 55mph

    thanks for the help

get the 3 chamber in either 50 or 70 series delta flow. if you add a crossover or X pipe it will reduce the sound level and smooth out the noise. it evens the pulses side to side.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, I got a locker in mine, it is a 9". Weirdest time is when I back up in a circle, like backing out of a parking stall. It makes funny noises then. Otherwise, no problem, but I have yet to drive it in rain, heck I have yet to put a hundred miles on it lol. gonna go to a cruisenite sat nite. Hope to take a good launch with the caltracs for the first time.

I am running the powertax lok-rite. Very happy, slight clicking around corners but since I have 40 series flows, you can' hear it! Scotty P
