i have built my fare share of hondas nissans...blah blah. i hate them. i hate the entire scene. ive been there and i hate it. it for the same money one would spend on a real dohc honda that runs 15s to get it sub 12s i could spend on my 5.0 mustang and have it in the 10s. whats the difference...... my 10 sec mustang would still be very streetable and live alot longer than a 4 cylinder thats seeing almost 4 times the power it was engineered for. and i can promise u that they do not last long. thats the scene around here. one of my best friends has an ek hatch w a turbod k20 that runs high 9's and every turd 4 cyl he has had has been blown to pieces and spends thousands on the next project coulda had a p51 roush by now and be reliable fast. not to mention the ridiculous amount on money tards spend on cv shafts via multiple replacments or buying quality one that still blow up...... oh yeah anyone ever drive a sub 11 sec FWD? its SCARY!!!! the torque steer is so ghetto.
I do most racing activity at the strip ... when my Comet had 4.62 gears it really didn't get much traction on regular blacktop streets. It was great at our track, though, even with street tires. They prep there like it every week is a national event. I did enjoy picking on wannabe bikers riding (close-to-stock) Harleys .... Only got beat once in a handful of times doing that. I'm smart enough to know not to take on rice rockets. Here is something a bit odd ... this was not a drag race, per se ... My best buddy and I both had to urgently get to the same destination. He was driving a 97 Civic with the VTEC motor, I was driving a 95 Suzuki Sidekick 4 door with the 1.6L 16 valve motor. Both of these are unmodified vehicles with 5 speed sticks, and we both know how to drive them hard.... I beat him from every stop.... like 7 or 8 times. Most of these were with him behind me, watching me gain distance on him all the way up to a bit over the speed limits. Neither one of us could believe that, with the reputation that VTECs have. Might have been the 4:86 gears in the 'zuki ...
i used to outrun mustangs like that like that with my stock 96 ram air trans am with an lt1. the stock cobra only runs a high 13 and low 14. yours def has a little something done to it. as for my mav. never had a problem with newer cars. it runs 11's in the 1/4. its funny to seee some young kid in his mommas car think he can outrun you. play with them for a minute then smoke them. they get a crazy look when you get around 50 stomp it and get sideways lol
In a race betwen a maverick and a fwd car with the same weight and hp I would bet on the maverick. If you ever watch fwd cars race they can pull the mph but can't cut a 60ft at all.
it's all in the weight transphere, from 0 -60ft fwd cars loose traction due to the weight lifting of the front wheels. on the other hands on a rwd weight is mooved to the driving wheel gaining traction and there fore geting more speed of the line.
The preparation H maverick ran 11 with stock parts back in the 70's. some of these builds amaze me... at how efficient they were. I think that used a 300 block and head, forged 240 crank, 289 springs, chevy valves i think from a 327 or 427. and a toploader. Imagine a build like that with today's technology, you could go a whole lot faster
Maybe, but a street Maverick weighs 3000-3400 w/ driver(we are comparing street cars now, right?). I figured the Honda a bit lighter, guess it's a full dress street car. 4-8 tenths now.
There's a video on here of a turbo 300 Maverick. Stock FI truck long block, runs high tens. Pretty cool
