The car is 1973 Maverick I-6...so when I'm driving it down the road it kind of tugs and pulls and i can hear the engine RPM then jump back up to normal and it will eventually just shut off. My Dad thinks it is the Fuel filter, so we bought one and I can't seem to find where the fuel filter is at! Can you guys help? Thanks in Advance!
what type of carb do you have? the Carter RBS carb has the fuel filter screw directly into the front of it. I had a very similar problem. Ended up being a rusty gas tank... could just be a bad fuel filter, or pump, or clogged sock, or dirty carb. just thoughts.
do you have a pic. of the one you bought? it's odd that you can't see the filter on the carb. ...it's where the fuel line hooks onto the carb...
A previous owner might have added another filter down the line also...so check for that. and hey im right next door in Riverside:Handshake
Haha the person that we bought the Maverick from was an old lady that took it to the market and back. We have had it ever since lol. My dad said he has put it on before but can't remember anymore since it was 4 years ago lol I'll put a picture on it 2mrow, to dark to take a picture, thanks guys
Its a complete stock carb. For the Straight Six. Not sure what kind it is, i know it is a one barrell
Usually if you follow a fuel line, you will run into a fuel filter, or a carb, with a fuel filter in the inlet.
is this your carb? http://image.mustangmonthly.com/f/2...ntifying_pony_carburetors+carter_rbs_carb.jpg if it is then the fuel filter is that brass, almost large bullet looking thing screwed into the frront.
fuel filter is that brass looking thing at the front the the hose clamped onto it at one end and screwed into the carb at the other.
" Dad thinks it is the Fuel filter, so we bought one and I can't seem to find where the fuel filter is at! Can you guys help?" if he "bought" one and can't find where it goes. he must have "bought" the wrong one... ...also need to loose them fuel line clamps. ......
the fuel tank outlet is on the driver's side of the fuel tank. then a metal line goes up the driver's side under the car and there is another rubber tube connecting 2 parts of the metal line under the car on the driver's side somewhere where the door hinge would be. Then in the engine compartment there should be a metal line coming out of the fender wall on the driver's side and a rubber hose should connect to that. Fuel filter might be one problem but I wouldn't discount other things. Does your RPM just stumble and then recover before it shuts off? when my fuel filter was plugged on my 6cyl it would just shut off under high load.
