Hello, I have an issue with the upper bushings for my front shocks on my 71 maverick. The rubber is deteriorated and nearly gone, but the shock is still usable, the cross bar that goes through the bushing is basically resting on the inside area of the shocks' upper mount where the bushing goes. The metal is not worn, and no, Im not driving the car like this. Is it possible to just get this bushing separately? I'm unemployed so I'd rather not replace both shocks just to replace the bushings.
I don't know where you would get the bushings - and I doubt you have the equipment to install them if you could find some. They are high density rubberbushing that have to be pressed into the shock and then the pins have to be pressed into the bushings.
Well, I found some cheap front shocks, from summit no less. One of my buddies uses the summit brand on his RX7 and says that they ride great. Here they are-http://www.summitracing.com/parts/KYB-343146/ I also found some KYB's locally for $39 each, but they gave a really harsh ride on my bug and would rather not go that route. I may just have to scrounge and replace the fronts if I cant manage to find the bushing, I may just check out some mechanics and see if I can press one out of an old shock. I know several mechanics and can call in a favor.
