I may have a chance to purchase a all original 76 Comet. Original Paint, Engine, interior, etc... Here is my question? Is it desirable to keep a car original. Id like to take it to some local parking lot type car meets. Will I get laughed out cuz my car isnt all modded and suped up?
Just do it the way YOU WANT TO! Don't worry about everyone else. You''ll get good and bad comments no matter which way you go. You have to fix your car to please yourself otherwise it will be no fun to drive .
Do what you want to do. If they are ignorant enough to mock you then they arenet worth parking beside. Some cruise nights have better participants than others. Find one with a good bunch of guys.
If it's in good condition, it will be appreciated as original, IMO. Don't worry about what everyone else thinks. I have an original 6 cylinder Grabber. I've taken it to shows and have never been "laughed at" - even with the 185/75-14 whitewalls that used to be on it. In fact, it's the opposite. I hear more stories about how someone "used to have one" more than I do with my blue V-8 car. It might be that original sparks more memories than something modded.
All in all, a stock 76 Comet is kinda boring..You'll find some people will love it, since they had one just like it, or their Grandma had one..but on the other hand, if it's super clean, it's a shame to wreck something that stayed that nice, this long.....
From what I have seen (pics) its very clean. NO rust, original paint, all original interior with just a rip in the front bench. low 60K miles.
My 69.5 was no way ever going to be a stock show car so it wasn't hard for me to make up my mind that it was going to become a hot rod with a whole bunch of modifications. I guess if it was real nice to begin, I may have thought differently
I believe in doing my car as I/you see fit. I agree w/ some of the comments here; some will like it some won't, no matter what u do. It's my car, time investment, and my money. I really don't care what folks think. I bought the car for me, not my neighbor, relative, spouse, fellow gearheads or whomever. I modify it to satisfy me. PERIOD.
I agree with the people who say, do what you want with it. People who know Mavericks will appreciate it in its original form, and as I have found, some will even appreciate it in a "hopped up form" ... just keep in mind, you cant please everyone, so you've got to please yourself. ) Learnin' from experience--- Welcome!
I think you could at least make some mods. It could use a tacho and some other gauges, maybe a radio upgrade. how about a nice set of rims. These are easy and can be made not to hurt you car.
I never try to please someone else with the car I buy or the mods or not that I do to it. I might listen to some friends sugestions but in the end, I do what I want to and what I can afford. Just enjoy your car and apprieciate what others do to thier's. I have always enjoyed having a car that isn't like everyone elses.
