Greetings everyone. New to the forum and new to Mavericks. Just made a down payment on a '72 Mav that we'll be picking up by Jun. 1. The car is a mostly finished street/stipper built by a career Ford mechanic. It will be an ongoing father/son project and weekend warrior for us. Looking forward to learning from the board and members and hopefully meeting some of the DFW members soon.
Yooo! I'm in Dallas alot. Either I will be staying at a friends in Rowlett when work gets busy or I am 15 miles north of the border on 35. I build and fix gates all over Dallas. We have a meet coming up soon in Waco. Details coming soon.
Thanks everyone - I feel the luv...LOL !!! Hoping to pickup our Maverick the last weekend of May. We'll post pics as soon as we're in the saddle...
Looks like we're going to pickup the car Wed or Thurs night. Hopefully my son still doesn't know about it... This is pretty much a done deal, just need to give the man his money. Some of you may know the car (???) it's a '72 built by a retired, career Ford mechanic who lives in south Arlington, TX. Here's what he told me about the car... 1972 Maverick (original 78Kmi. 6-cyl car w/ radio delete) 331ci stroker w/ Scat internals Pretty radical cam (.558 lift I think he said?) RPM air-gap w/ Holley 670 street avenger (new) (car was running a BG carb w/ nitrous, but seller kept those) Pertronix ignition Headers w/ FM's and turn-downs 8gal fuel cell in trunk Race built C4 trans w/ 3300 stall Stock rear w/ 4:10 gears, mini-spool, heat treated axles Stock rear suspension w/ slapper bars Stock front suspension, steering, and brakes (all brakes rebuilt) Pretty nice interior (needs carpet and dash top repainted) Has some rust-through on the passenger side rear floorboard but nowhere else on the car (thick fiberglass patch okay?) Fresh paint (silver) and re-chromed bumpers Everything works (wipers, horn, lights, gauges, etc.) Includes brand new street tires w/ spun aluminum moon covers and a set of strip wheels/tires The car could use new window beltline weatherstripping and carpet. Otherwise, it's really quite nice - good glass, trim, headliner, interior, etc. And of course it runs like a scalded dog. He said it dyno'd at 413 rear wheel hp and runs low 7's in the 1/8 without juice. (Mid 6's w/ juice) He took me around the block and almost scared me. (I said ALMOST...lol...but to be fair he said he was only in it about 3/4 throttle. Actually what came the closest to scaring me was the side-to-side swaying from the low rear tire pressure.) At the time, he had the cheater slicks on w/ 12lbs of pressure and it definitely hooks up hard. My son and I are planning to do some fun stuff with the car next fall/winter, but we look forward to just having fun with it this summer. According to the owner, he has nearly $5K in the motor, tranny and rear end, another $2K in paint & body work, and another $2K in misc (gauges, interior, wheels tires, etc.) Of course none of this includes his labor building and installing everything. I'd prefer not to say what I actually paid, but I am curious what YOU think would would have been a fair price for this car based on the information above and what you know about the national Maverick/Comet market...???
