Can anyone help with their expertise. What if I broke one bolt on the exhaust manifold header? I was trying to loosen up the header to change the gasket and I broke one bolt and the other half is still in their. Did I F*@K up? and how do I move the compressor out of the way to unloosen that bolt way at the top of the header? If anyone can help, I would be thrilled
if you...unloosen..the bolt, you will be tighting it back up....J/K at the shop Harold takes a nut and welds it to the broken bolt. then just backs it out. sometimes he has to do it 2-3 times but it always works... do you have a pic. of the broken bolt (in the head)? Frank
yea if there is enough of the bolt outside of the head just slide a nut over it and weld it to it stronger the weld the better if its flush weld a big washer to the edge of the bolt then weld a nut to that washer works ever time
well i dont have a pic, but welding? I'm a female, would that be hard for me? Know where I can rent the welding equipment i need in louisiana?
well mr. sam, thanks for the help, but where can i get welding equipment and is it hard for little ol me?
you might be able to rent a small 110v mig welder from homedepot or lowes then you can have it for the day practice on a bolt and nut off the car get the hang of it doesnt have to be perfect just need it to be strong enough to get a wrench on it and loosen it where is the bolt break at?? like how much is out of the head?
raydenaomi cool homedepot. Didnt even know you can do that, thanks for your expertise. I dont think any part of the bolt is sticking out of the head. I think the broken bolt part is in the header. I could probably stick my finger in the hole some.
well if broke off in the head theres nothing to weld too a pic would be nice ive never had a bolt break off in something. i think you can drill it out with a smaller bit and then rechase the threads
drill it out,? would that disintegrate the bolt? is that right? what is rechase? I can probably get a picture but not til sunday. If there's something impossible, I can do it. I'm clumsy sometimes. haha
haha ok well the bolt runs in the threads in the head and you could take a drill bit and drill out the old bolt then go back and rethread the hole for a new bolt. i take you just bought the car from your join date. whats the story on the car engine condition and all??
Ok, I got the rethread thing. Rethread with the drill correct? got ya. I'll try that and take a pic as well. That is going to help me out loads Thank you so much.. I did get the car around the join date. The engine is rebuilt (I didnt do that though , but I did put in a new holley carb, egr valve, altenator, battery, fuel line, starter, spark plugs, spark plug wires, and changed the oil. Even though everybody is shocked to hear that I did it... I'm tryin to get it runnin to use and to eventually put in a show. Is that you're red mav on the website? are you restoring one too
well it sounds like you do know your way around the car this should be breeze then search down removing broken bolts and rethreading bolts im sure there is tons out. yes on my cardomain site haven't have the time to update that in a while just finally got it started and running right today haha so im guessing you have a 302 in the car sounds like its in good shape mavericks are alot of fun and the attention comes with it since everyone knows someone who one day had a maverick
came with a rebuilt engine... I changed-oil, spark plugs, starter, carburetor, altenator, egr valve, battery, new spark plug wires, new battery cables, fuel line. Are you restoring one too, on that website on your page?
