Well, the plan WAS to use the pistons in this motor. But as you can see, a part of the piston fell off.

Problems with the motor in the last 10000 miles

    2 blown head gaskets
    cracked piston
    bearings were damaged
    blow by

so, basically its a $400 mistake that lead to friendshipbetween maverick maniac and i.

Wait, didnt i just do a motor swap?

Sorry for your luck, but don't feel bad I usually have that kind of luck with transmissions. There was a time when I remember swapping transmissions almost on a weekly basis. Gets old after a while but still kinda fun. lol

I agree with 302's being tuff about 5 years ago on my way home in the middle of the night i threw the harmonic balancer in the original maverick motor. NO cell phone, no parts store, and no money. I Smacked it back on as good as I could by hand and drove her the other 50 miles home. Knocking and rattling the whole way, shook so bad it would make your teeth rattle! A few times I was really hard on it cause at that point it needed to just blow up, I couldn't take it anymore!

I threw new balancer on next morning, No problems. Motor seemed fine! I couldn't believe it so I babied it for a week, then started daily driving it again, then months turned into over a year. LOL

Motor was then transplanted into my father in laws truck, driven for a few years, and we even pulled the motor out of that truck and still have it!

Its like our Go to motor cause it just won't die!

I will have a proper funeral for that motor when it finnaly dies cause it really is apart of the family! LOL

They are tough, I drove my 74 for 6 months before I had it rebuilt... The builder asked didn't you hate driving it with such a bad vibration ? I said theres no vibration it drives fine... Then he pointed to where the balancer should have been, there was only the little hub left the rest was long gone...lol

Sorry 'bout your luck, Justin. Certainly been there myself.

I love how you have spread bits of engine all over your kitchen like that. You are clearly single. Or you will be soon anyway...

when i bought my 1969 mustang in 1993ยด, the 302 in it worked fine, but i realized that when it was hot, it started to produce white smoke, alot that when i was in the stoplights, alot of smoke showed on the sides of the car, the odometer marked 998,000 miles! i drove it until it turns to zero again and drove it another 998 miles, then i send the engine to a rebuilder and when he took the timming chain cover off ,the camshaft was walking to one side, the gears started to grind the sides of the block, there was a big ball of metal dust in the oilpan as a result of this. but the 302 engine still worked, hey it even made good burnouts!! the pistons where std. size, the engine never had a rebuild before!!

You are correct:D, but my kitchen will probably have parts in it:rofl2:

I was kind of disapointed i didnt find more damage at first, but then the piston and bearing damage explained everything.

Machine shop said granada flat top pistons will be on 50 oz rods by 3 pm.

Yep, 77 granada flat top pistons are being switched with the low compression dish type pistons. New bearings and rings for all.(y)

So I see. Hm. I suppose that's no worse than me wanting to put a dishwasher in my garage.

Does that need to be balanced?

    The rods are already balanced

(im leaving things out, the granada piston rods are not 50 oz rods which i need for this 50 oz motor, the dish piston rods are 50 oz rods.):drive:
