I have a 70 that has the rear end off a 73 and i need to replace the wheel cylnders. The 73 needs a wheel cylinder that has a diameter of 27/32 and they cost from about 30-40 bucks a piece. I heard that a wheel cylinder for a 74 mav will fit and work right, they have a diameter of 7/8. does anyone know if this is true?

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
I hope they do work for you. Cause the 74 ones are only like eight bucks each.

I know, its a huge differance. The project is on hold untill I find a wheel cylinder for a 73 thats a decent price of figure out if a 74 will work. cuz i cant spend 60-80 bucks on two wheel cylinders. I found a wheel cylinder on Rock Auto for a 73 thats only $6.60 a piece tho but im leary if its what i need or not since its so cheap.

Use the 72 Master cylinder. It will give you better brakes.
My 73 had one on it and the brakes were fine. Then I redid the brakes and got a 73 master cylinder and the pedal pressure increased and braking decreased. I don't remember what the difference in diameter but the 72 was a smaller size master cylinder.

It should work fine, the 7/8 wheel cyl is 1/32 larger giving you more pressure on the brake shoes with the same master cyl. You should not even notice the difference in pedal travel.

it did work! I got two wheel cylinders for a 74 mav at 8.50 a piece and they work perfectly. Way better than spending 35-40 bucks a piece for the 73 wheel cylinders.

    .

will the 74 wheel cylinders work on a 1972? if i can get the 74's for 8.99 apiece, instead of the 39.99 for the 72im going that route.
