I thought it was time to say Hi to everyone. I joined this site 3 years ago when I bought my 71 Comet and have been silently viewing the site from time to time. Three years ago Labor Day Weekend I was Up North, as we say in Michigan, and I ran across a 71 Comet from Arizona. Thought it was a Maverick from the front since it didn't have a grille or the bulging Comet hood, but when I saw the tail lights I knew it was a Comet. I wasn't looking for a classic car project but the first car I ever bought was a 71 Comet GT while I was in the USAF. I saw this car and decided I had to have it. That's me in the avatar, picture was taken March 1973. The first year I just kept the car in the garage and shopped e-bay for parts. Two years ago my brother started restoring it for me and now the end is in sight. The only thing keeping me from the end is my pocketbook. If I can figure out where and how to put up some pictures of our restoration project, I thought I could post pictures periodically of the progress.
Welcome aboard Mick. Glad to see you finally on here. I know a few of my parts has made it on that car. You are also in luck, the Maverick Comet Club International, Inc. (MCCI) 18th Annual Roundup Nationals will be in Dearborn, Michingan next summer...so you have some motivation to get it done.
Yeah the fender and valence panels look like new. The sport mirror will be painted this week and put on the car. It must be comforting to know you are responsible for keeping these great old cars on the road and looking like new. I tried to attach a picture of your parts on the car but I can't figure out quite how to do it. I tried attaching a picture to this reply but I don't think it worked. If I try to upload pictures to the site it says I am not authorized. I'll shoot a picture to you via e-mail. I am excited about the Roundup coming to my backyard! I will be there. Thanks for all of your help along the way with this project.
Test fit of Craig's parts Craig, I think I figured out how to post a picture let's see if this works. Mick
HELLO, WELCOME ABOARD. i AM ALSO NEW AT THIS. I was born in Wayne County Hospt. Yeap a Michigander living in southern CA, USA Ricky
Beginning Pictures Since I figured how to post some pictures, here are pictures of the way the car looked when I bought it in September 2007. An Arizona car without a speck of rust (except for the Maverick fender and hood thrown on the car after an apparent accident). Every nut and bolt came off this car without using liquid wrench, heat, hammers, chisels, etc.
