Been working on this monster for 3 yrs worth of saturdays. Between welding in pans, welding and leading trim holes and making patch panels and welding em in place and metal finishing em. I managed to get another one and rebuilt it mechanically so I could drive it...Hence the reason this one isnt painted yet (I basically blew it off last summer for the Sprint) Well, the driver side is DONE. Just needs a wet sanding and paint. Now I have to get the rest of the body to this level so I can paint it. I have lots more pics but not enough room (the pics are pretty big) Maybe I should compress some of em... There is a light at the end of the tunnel, the tunnel is just a bit longer than I think it should be...LOL...
Looking good Pete. Seems like yesterday mine looked just like that. Time flies. It will be done before you know it.
Thanks guys... Personal projects allways take the longest dont they?...I remember when I used to do this on other peoples cars and would bang em out in a week. I was alot younger though too. Hope to knock out the other side before the weather changes and paint freezes coming out of the gun...LOL... Frank... I wish mine was closer to paint too Don... If it is a train, my luck it will be carrying nuclear waste and have no brakes at all Dave... Get out there and make it happen man!!! Darren...LOL... Mine did look like this yesterday...Should look similar to yourse once I paint it
Daylight finally First time in 3 yrs the beast has seen daylight...Then it went back inside so I can finish it up. Gotta get it 2 ft in the air though. Perhaps after I strip the other half of the roof...Time to make some progress.
Not gonna go there till spring Mike. Eng compartment is gonna be treated all by its lonesome as a sepearte entity. I am itching to pop those heads on though.
A little lead to finish this out and I can move on. Would you believe this quarter had no "E" coat on it...It also has a few salvage repair grinder markes on it. Looks like the Kansas assy plant did a quarter repair/replacement on the line.
I kinda wonder if they didn't E-coat the Kansas cars..... Anyways, looks awesome! It's nice that the weather is mild again, and it's bearable to spend some time in the garage.
Its not unusual for a repair like that to happen during assembly. Wonder what they did to the original quarter to force them to replace it though?? The rest of the car was definitely E coated. That stuff is tough and stripper has to work overtime to cut it. Most of the paint just peeled off this quarter though.
