HEY GUYS, I'm getting some input b4 my project. I'm thinking about giving a small rake to the top and eliminate the top of the door frame and the back side glass and rail (looking for the Hard top look) I know I'm not going to have any glass, But that's my question??!! any input on how to save the window and the side glass????
I think you would be better off leaving the door pillar intact and ging with custom flush mount glass like the new Challenger. You would lose a lot of strength cutting that pillar out.
If you cut the B pillar out and loose the door frames, you will have to reinforce the chassis/roof of the car. You will have to build a channel into the roof rail so you can install weather stipping for the new glass to seal to when the windows are closed. You may not drive it in the rain but (you will have to wash it once in a while) Getting custom glass cut isnt cheap but is done all the time. You do know how to make proper templates for the new glass right??? Rakeing the roof will entail changeing its entire profile from front to back and will require much sectioning to accomplish properly. Its not a job for the faint of heart or the first timer. Just removing the drip rail requires some skill since you are cutting 3 pieces of steel apart and re-joining them with out the rail in place. good luck!!!
chop top?? Yes I sold the fairmont!! well I was thinking to re-enforce the sub-frame and Inst a top roll cage. my concern is the door window's and the side glass. maybe set it up the side glass like a t-top (to be able to remove and inst)??? lets put the Heads to think?? (why ford did not inst back roll window)
I would think too much cost for a roll rear window. I love the vent style windows. Pop em open, open the floor vents and its cool cruisin'. Current minivans have used the rear vent windows for decades. Works great to suck out the hot air.
