well got home from work and parked my car in the drive way went in side for a bit then when back out and tryed to start her to park in the garage and took like 5 mins to finally get her started ( usually always takes me longer to get started after just driving and its only been like 10 mins of being off ) and the throttle got stuck or something wide open and then i heard it crack bang bang bang bang bang bang and then back fire back fire and i cut her off ( mind you this was all happened in about 4 seconds and as fast i could react to it ) well it being dark out got a flash light and looked have a good 4in long half inch high dent sticking out my hood great and i would here water just pouring out. opened the hood and this is what im looking at water pump ripped in half fan is bent all to bits trans cooler is trashed along with the radiator and the hood is slashed and bent ( guess ill be looking for another hood now) so tell me something i dont have any money at the moment the reason im trying to get my parts car out of my hair and what money i can get for it. i know i need to really wait till i pull the pump to see what else has gone on. but would now be a great time to put an electric fan on ??? i mean if i had one on now this all wouldnt of happen ( hood and radiator damage )
me either ive never know of one cracking completely open on a daily driver ive seen it on race cars and then they just upgrade to an electric high performance pump.
what parts do you have that i could use don?? might save me some money so anyone think it will be a safe bet to upgrade to an electric fan??
thanks boosha but ill be swaping in a 4 speed soon as long as i can get the last few parts i need in a couple months so i think the trans will be find with out it till then thanks for the offer
I had something similar happen to me at a red light. I had an 89 suburban with a brand new crate engine in it. used my old accessories, Sitting at a red light at idle, the mounting hub separates from the pump shaft sending a 20" flex fan into a one week old aluminum and plastic radiator. Nobody would fix it, so I bought a 2nd 500 dollar radiator in a week. The fan was not damaged! The moral of the story: In my case it was a rebuilt water pump that let go. That hub dont like getting pressed on and off and on again
see thats the thing i could see it happening on a reman pump but this was a brand new pump not 7k miles old and i was told the other day that the belt was loose cus it squeaked on start up and shut down and revs. or does that mean its too tight???
if the pump was binding up somehow? via bearing problem? i would guess that that could cause your squeak as well... adn tightening the belt... could possibly have caused the pump to give the ghost when it couldn't slip due to a super tight belt? just a thought not sure.
