did ford make a 14x8 steel rim and if so on what cars were they on? i am trying to get a 235 or 245 tire on the rear of my mav and it won't fit a stock 14x6 rim. i am told the biggest tire that willl fit these is a 205. not big enough to fill the wheel well. i know the aftermarket has this size rims but due to budget i need to be conservative. any ideas would be appreciated.

Mostly anything in that area is will be aftermarket, but you MAY be able to find some types of vehicals with special packages that have those width but still very unlikely and you can fit bigger then that on a 14x6 I have a P225/60R14 on my stock 14x6 steels i think goodyear makes it these tires are about as wide as you will get on a 14x6 steel but are not good for hard cornering.

Just for info. I have 14x6 wheels on my Daily driver '77 Toyota Corolla and have 245/60r14 tires on the back. That's probably pretty close to the widest tire I'd put on a 6" wheel.

how did you get a shop to mount them? the shops i talked to say they won't mount them any bigger than 205's. i must be at the wrong tire stores.

I mounted them. We do tires at my shop.
It is getting harder these days to get shops to do things that are out of the ordinary.
For example, a lot of tire shops will no longer mount tires if you didn't buy them from them (i.e. Summit).

yeah, I never understood that at all. I run a shop and it does not matter to me if the customer brings their own parts. I figure money is money and I need LOTS of it LOL

I got the tires at wal-mart and they put them on and balanced them for the price of the tires and i think they were only like $35-$40

I ran into the same problem so I went to 15 inch wheels. 265-50-15 tires in the rear and 225-70-15 tires in the front. The rear wheels are 8 inch and the front wheels are 7 inch. They are about the widest you can put on the rear without modification and still keeping the tires under the car. The rear backspace is 4.5 inches and the front is 4.25 inches. Looks and handles great, I am very happy with them. Good luck!!

Not yet. Will work on it. I don't have a digital camera yet so I have to get someone to take them for me.

hey i finally found someone with his head on straight. i found the manager at the local action gator is rebuilding a 71 grabber and he was more than willing to work with me. i now have 215's on the front with 225's on the rear. ended up going with cooper cobras for rubber. i liked the look and price:bananaman it makes a world of difference on the look of the car. now i just need to cut the front springs or find some 6 cyl springs to lower the front a little.

btw... i took my mav into the paint shop today so look soon for pictures. going with a semi gabber look but on a 4 door. should be very different. i didn't see any in the roundup pics even close to my paint idea. wish me luck
