So I'm looking at a 72 Maverick Grabber 250 I6 it's a 4 lug. 32,000 original miles. Total cream puff! I know I need 5 Lug front spindles to do the swap but is there another rear end that has the spring perches in the same spot? 4 lug just won't cut it! Haaaa...

Easiest would be a 5-lug Maverick/Comet rear. Most other options require some kind of modification. I think Granada/Monarch/Versailles will bolt in. Don't know 100% though.

Granada does but it's 1/2" wider on each side past the spring perches. Can allow you to run a wheel with more backspacing.

Wonder why is it a 250 I6 and has 4 lugs? I thought the 250 came with 5 lugs in 71 when the 302 and 5 lug rear was introduced or was the 5 lug not starting in 73?

I checked the information site and according to the year to year changed the 250-I6 did come with 5 lugs starting in 1971

I thought it would have been 5 lug too. Oh well. Guess I have to get a 9" now! :)

I believe that the 250 I6 is a 4 lug on regular Mavericks and 5 Lug on 250 I6 Grabbers. All of the parts catalogs state that the 250 is a 5 lug 10" brake but we all know that this is incorrect.

what do you mean?? are you trying to say that you have a factory 250-I6 with factory 4 lug suspension which would mean that Ford did something inconsistant or maybe they ran out of 200-I6 and stuck a 250 in one of the 4 lug cars to finish the line up one Friday afternoon around beer:30 or giving it was the 70's around 4:20. LOL could never have happened, such a car would never have made it past Quality Assurance. LOL hahahaha :rofl2:

Haaaaa....That's some funny **** right there! I checked the VIN and it's got the 93 in the code as well as the 62D on the data tag. :)

Mine is a 72 grabber with a 250 six with 4 lug factory. I found a 1976 parts car and changed it over to a 5 lug . I like it.

If you are just putting drum brakes up front you don't need to change the spindles...just a set of 5-lug drums will go right on the original spindles.

I'm buying a doner car for a disk brake swap. I'll have extra drums and axles and I'm willing to ship them. I had them cut 5000 miles ago but the rear ones will be coming off of the donor car and I'm not shore of the condition yet. Let me know if interested?

You can have your axles modified to replace the wheel studs with the 5 lug pattern. Don't know how much that would cost. It would have to be cheaper than swapping in a 9 inch. Just depends on how much HP you plan to make, and if your sticking with the 250 there won't be any issue (unless your doing some rad stuff!). The 8 inch rear is lighter and saps less HP.

I also don't know if there is a significant difference in the strength of the 4 lug (smaller bearing) compared to the 5 lug rear  But again, if your sticking with the 250, it would not be a concern.

Early Mustang, 65-66, will bolt right in. Perches are something like 1/4" different on each side, overall length about 1" different IIRC.
