put the 460 in the maverick and the 302 in the truck she won't notice i promise post some pics as you are doing the 460 swap
The last one I had do that smashed the cam into pieces as well. Scrap weight now. Good excuse for you to build up a nice motor though. Always a positive side.
Yes it is! The guy I got it from was told the engine had a knock, looks more like it was a BANG. I had hoped it was OK, I was able to roll it over with no issues. I knew there were big problems when the pan was blocking access to one of the pan bolts.
Believe it or not My Dad had a Slant 6 in a Dodge Dart that did something similar (basically put the rod through the block) and kept running for a short period after it happened. Said he heard the bang and the car lost almost all power and started running rough as hell and he pulled over and popped the hood (engine still barely running and he said there was a hole in the block with oil sloshing out and it had caught fire. He said the engine kept running right up until he threw dirt into the hole to put the fire out. LOL Those old simplified engine just didn't know when to give up.
The old 360 F.E. in my '71 F250 did that. The rod actually went right through the side of the block. It kept on running (very roughly with almost no power) (not that either of those were out of the ordinary for it) and made it several miles home, cloud of smoke out the back the whole way. Wonder it didn't catch fire.
While road racing a Mustang years ago at Bridgehampton i had a rod go through the side of the block blowing the starter motor right off and the shrapnel went through the windshield of a Corvette that was behind me
