well its been an adventure but my 71 grabber is finally running. i was worried since it is a rebuilt engine that i didnt rebuild myself and theres always that doubt. at first when i tried to start it the first time the solonoid stuck so it kept cranking until i could disconnect it. thank goodness it didnt ruin the engine. never tighten battery when installing a new engine and have a friend near the battery to remove the loose cable!! warning! now that it is running, there is an exhaust leak in the donut things. the one thing i didnt think of replacing. i thought it would be ok but i guess i was wrong. now to the hassle of disconnecting the exhaust which is not easy since it has that crossover tube in it and i cant manipulate it. now to put in the b & m shifter and take it out on the road. hooray! had to tell some people who might care! anyone know an easy way to replace those stock exhaust donut gaskets? mike
Make sure you get the all steel donut. The fiberglass donuts don't last long. Unless you like changing them out alot. LOL
thanks! its all done although i had to use the fiberglass as the steel will leak. the alignment is off a little on one side. with the fiberglass it sat well. i started my car again and it was running so nice then started running lousy and stopped. i was wondering what in the world now? then i thought about gas. did i have enough? my gauges are all out so i couldnt tell. so i hooked it up and voila! no gas! i hate when that happens! dont forget also this: get plenty of gas before you do the project. man its been a while but i learned it all again. those manifolds took all day so the b & m shifter has to wait till next week. oh well! mike
ummm cam break in? i just barely have it running and i havent driven it yet. what about this cam break in? mike
