Hi guys. Am just finishing a disc brake swap. the front brakes have drained completely of brake fluid. Can I open up the rear bleeders on the drum brakes and let gravity drain all the old fluid out so that I can put in new synthetic fluid. It would be easier that forsing out the old fluid with synthetic fluid. Thks Ron:confused:
Why would you want Dot 5 fluid? Dot 3 is all you need. You can gravity bleed the rears. Then you'll need someone to operate the pedal a few times to make sure all the air is out.
Ron, If you had one of those power bleeders,,, or what I call um,,, by myself bleeders. You might get all the old fluid out. I dont know if it will gravity bleed all the way or not. Dan
Thks for the reply but the old fluid is very dirty and i dont know how old it is.Also Im using synthetic's in the rearend and synthetic's dont heat up as much and therefore have a better stopping distance .no fade
From what I read, synthetics don't work as good as standard brake fluid. The advantage is, it doesn't absorb moisture like standard brake fluid. Personally, I put synthetic in my Sprint and seems to work fine so far.
And I can attest to that fact, from 100 mph braking to the return road at the Muncie dragstrip, it stopped just as good as my car that has 4 wheel disc brakes. My next car I do will have synthetic fluid. Dan ps the big difference in me adding disc brakes to the rear is, when I slow down hard,, it does not nosedive whatsoever.
Thanks for the replys guys. I will try the gravity thing and if not then I will force the old fluid out. Im using that new Royal Purple synthetics, supposed to be just great stuff. All the people I know that have high performance vehicles have switched to Royal Purple and all have nothing but good reviews. Thanks Ron
