FYI ...a Pushrod 5.0 Windsor engine has nothing in common (except it runs on gasoline) with the new 5.0 Coyote Engine. A 5.0 from the 80's and 90's is nothing more than a 302 from the 60's and 70's ... Mavericks were available from factory with a 302 .. so a 5.0 pushrod engine fits perfectly. The new Modular 4.6 and 5.0 engines will not fit in a Maverick without lots of modification to the Maverick Engine Bay. Here is a 1995 5.0 Engine in my Grabber Here is a Modular engine next to the pushrod 5.0 ... The modular engine will not fit ...
But not with ITBs.... I dont know how much it would be for a new 5.0 but for a pushrod ones the ITB setups cost $3,500-5K.
I know the motors are completely different. Its just that I didn't completely realize the difference in external dimensions of the motors without them sitting next to each other and I was wondering how mine fit but the new one wouldn't so I asked for some pictures. I asked specificly for pics of the towers and I could see where the welds hadn't been ground completely flush before the engine bay was painted. The pictures are on my phone and I have no way of putting them on my computer. It looks like im going to have to change the suspension to a set up without strut towers. Any suggestions for what to change to?
i think your geting a head of your self. what motor are you going to use? that will dictate what you need to do for suspension and transmission.
Well my original plan was to use the 302 that's in it with the six speed from the mustang since the maverick's transmission needs to be rebuilt. That's why I wanted to know if I would have room under the car for the MT82. Now that I know how mangled my strut towers are I have to do something with the suspension. As it sits now, the car isn't even close to being safe to drive IMO. Honestly a new motors not that important to me. My 302 only has 87,000 miles on it. I really just want to get my car on the road. I think someone here said this trans would bolt to my 302. Is this correct? If so is there room for the transmission? Edit: Nevermind that second part. ^^^ i see now that it was the T5 that was said would work with my 302. I think it is a 5 speed? I really wanted a six speed but i will look into this transmission if it will bolt to my current motor.
. like bryant said sounds like your getting ahead of yourself here. borrow or buy a camera and post pics of your engine bay . we can help you determine if the towers are unsafe. plenty on here with lots of experince.
IF your really dead set on getting a six speed in there it would be alot easier (still not anywhere near bolt in) to go with a t-56. The transmission your asking about in 4 years there will probably be a feasable way maybe. As for your shock towers search shaving shock towers on the forums, Im sure thats what you previous owner did. Post pics when you can so we can better understand.
I searched the shaving shock towers thing and they have been shaved but after looking at the pictures in the thread that i found I am almost certain that my towers have been moved forward by 3-5 inches. As I said, I'm not near my car now and only have the pictures on my phone to compare so I could possibly be wrong but there really did appear to be a considerable difference between the placement of the shock towers in the picture of my car v.s. the pictures in the thread. Also in my pictures you can clearly see where there are extra welds all the way around the shock towers and several inches back into the engine bay that would not be required in shaving the towers which also makes me believe that they have been completely moved. Why would the previous owner hack the car up like this? Is there ANY kind of mod that this sounds like to you or do you think that this is just something thrown together by someone in their garage that didn't know what they where doing? I cannot get the pictures onto the computer from my phone but when i get back to eastern N.C. on the 20th I will see if i can borrow a digital camera or something.
Just wanted to say that when I get the pictures I will post them in a new thread so this transmission thread wont become any more cluttered with suspension questions.
My phone can't send emails. I'm not sure about texting them I've never tried to send one. I don't think my cell plan is set up to do that though.
To answer your trans question, I personally think it would require ALOT of fabrication to make that thing fit. It's very tall compared to the C4 and even the T5 plus it doesn't bolt up to a 5.0l pushrod engine. Between fabricating the mounting plates for the engine and clutch system it's in the machinist realm but also don't forget that it uses a unique clutch arrangement with a dual mass flywheel which will get very expensive in just parts before you even bolt it in the car. The tunnel of the car will (this is just from eyeballing it) have to be cut out up to the firewall and clearanced for the trans. I'd say if you're going to do all of that, figure out a way to put the whole drivetrain in it instead of attempting to adapt it. You'll be happier in the long run. Either way you'll spend a load of cash and a lot of time. btw: Ford Racing offers a street rod harness for the 5.0l coyote with a manual trans that includes the sensors and manual trans PCM without all the emissions junk. You should be able to get a coyote pkg in a Maverick with a Rod and Custom mustang II suspension setup.
