I saw this picture of a supposed 1970 Maverick Gas Cap on Flickr, and wondered if anyone knows if this was an actual Factory item, for a Maverick? (other pics below of similar items) - Roger The engraving on it looks similar to the engraved Maverick door emblems: I know the original 4-ear Deluxe style gas caps, that had the steer horns, and the words "Maverick", looked like this:
Yes, not sure what option package it was, but I have seen a print ad for it before and it has been discussed on the forum.
Also, I think the 70 Grill emblems had 20 teeth on the gear symbol, and the Gas Caps had 18. The above pic shows 18. The flickr website says it's a 70 Mav Gas Cap.
Hey Dan...There''s only 17 cogs pictured on the gas cap in the 70 manual, when the real one's have 18. There must be an ultra rare 17 version. haha - Roger

I didn't. The replica I made looks 100% accurate and works excellent. The seller of that radio would not negotiate on price and would not test it or guarantee it worked. He told me he repaired OEM radios for a living years ago. He said he would take in a defective one and then send out a repaired one out if his inventory. He did not know if this one was from his refurb inventory or needs repair inventory. For $300 I didn't want to take a chance since it may have been another $300 to fix it. Plus I thought it was strange he wouldnt bench test for me. I appreciate the heads up though!
Agreed. Yeah...that's kinda shady of the seller. That was one of the hardest parts I've ever tracked down...I had to do an unconventional search to find it. I have a near mint set of black deluxe door panels for my Grabber too, but mine have the standard maverick steerhorn emblems, with the black color backing in the metal...I think some of them came with clear backing on the metal. - Roger
