Which gearing would be best for a weekend crusier and 1/8 th mile track car?? I was thinking 3.80? I'm rebuilding the stock c4 with full manual valve body. Tires are 225/60-15 but will be much wider later. Engine 302 .040 and will have a cam and heads just don't know what's best any help there too? Thanks guys
If you're not planning on long highway cruising, 3.80's at a minimum. If primarily 1/8 mile, look into 4.11's.
My car with 4:11's and 255 60 15 tires turns around 3200-3300 at 60 mph roughly. The car seems to like to run at that rpm with my set up and is surprisingly efficient. Temp runs 200 or less. Its a bit much on me sometimes but I'm getting the tail pipes this season so I'm sure that will help a ton. Not sure you'd want to go much under 4:11s for 1/8th mile. Never raced 1/8th myself but you'll need some gear. Also the gear increase means a torque increase and more traction needed. Pretty tough to run 1/8th and have a highway car.
I agree, if I was setting up solely for 1/8 mile in a car around 300 to the wheels I would be looking for gears around 4.50-5.00s. Hard to optimize 1/8 mile and freeway
Well I guess ill order 4.11 then 1/8 th mile track is about an hour from me all highway that's why I was think 3.80 since she will be driven there but I found a calculator for ratios and with the 24 in tall tire I have at like 3500 it will be a little over 60 MPH with 4.11 I was going to swap to a roller cam anyway and I guess ill need to to have any top end power and rpms thanks guys when I get the money in a couple weeks ill be posting on here for what's the best cam and head combos for a stock bottom end just. 040 over looking for over 300 hp
Keep in mind you could also look into swapping to an AOD transmission. That would allow you to run a higher gear and have the overdrive for freeway travel.
Yea that or a t-5 but that will be later I now have a daily driver so this is just a weekend play toy now ill order the 4.11s then and a full rebuild kit for the rear end and just build it I'm rebuilding the c4 once I get the rearend done then tieing. Up the engine hopefully by JUNE-ISH HAH
