hey everyone, ok ive posted this before and got many ideas but problem still continues. as soon as i turn on my maverick within minutes theres a strong fuel odor inside the car. there are no fuel leaks wat-so-ever. im going crazy with this smell. ive put a charcoal canister and smell is still there. when car is off there is no smell. only when car is on... can anyone help???
You do realize your driving a non catalytic car? They're gonna smell. But it shouldn't be too bad unless its running rich. And it that case tune the carb, And check the body for any rust holes or any area that could be letting the exhaust in. And check the exhaust for leaks also, Ive heard guys who have turndowns at the axle complain about the exhaust smell. I never had that issue though.
what exactly do you mean by turndown at the axle? but yeah the smell is super strong. i dont think its suppost to be that strong...
That means when they tailpipe exits under the rear seat instead of the rear of the car. If its super strong my guess is that your engine is running really rich. Smell your dipstick to see if you get any fuel smell. You can visually inspect them, look for any rust and any small holes. And then after that if you want to be more thorough. You can get a spray bottle fill it up with water and some dish soap. Spray it on the exhaust pipe while the car is running. If you see any bubbles form then you have pin sized holes. And when an engine is running rich what happens? It smells like raw gasoline...which comes out of where???? The exhaust My guess is that he is running rich and maybe has an exhaust leak, which is what is contributing to the smell getting into the interior.
Another thing to check is the electrical wire grommet on the fuel sending unit. New fuels contain ethanol which dries out the rubber in the grommet. I had this same thing and the grommet was the problem, as it seals the wires to the unit.
i smelled dipstick and it smells alot like fuel... if im running rich how can i fix that? what can i do?
