Hey guys my dads friend is selling his 351 cleveland that he is taking out of his cobra kit car. I want to know if it will fit in my maverick with headers but without cutting the shock towers. I dont think it will fit with the headers but i just want to make sure.
Extremely tight. I have seen a 351C in a car without shaving the shock towers. The guy did heat them and bend them in for some relief. He had custom (home made) headers. It still rattled and banged at some points. He admitted that it was easier to unbolt the motor mounts and jack it up to change the plugs. It's a tough one. It didn't clear the stock hood, he had a scoop and a hole. HE had solid motor mounts because when he hit the gas it torqued against the sides. Better off shaving the towers. Seth
i would shave the towers but its on my stallion and i dont wanna hack it up. Its a really good deal on the motor so maybe ill try and find another mav for it. thanks for the input tho.
I put a 351C in my Grabber in 1988. Cutting the shock towers is only part of the equation to shoehorn that puppy in there. I would not do it again. With the stroker kits and potential of the 302 and 351W engines I think it wiser to use them. Don't get me wrong, the Cleveland was screamin' but the extra weight and lack of parts available, especially for exhaust headers (I had to cut and weld the heck out of a Mustang set) would "Steer" me away from the C. Though it was lots of fun to see the look on peoples faces when I opened the hood.
he wants 2500 for the whole motor except for the headers. the motor is super clean. It has 380 hrp. He rebuilt it and it has about 3000 miles on it. Everything on its practically brand new. it sounds high but if you seen it its nice and runs strong.
No cutting. Headers from Tubular Automotive. It's tight, but works. All the 302 mounting and tranny stuff works. The brackets take a little mixing and matching. Good luck Dave Btw: See the dents at the top of each tower? I went for years without my tower braces installed. I didn't know any better, but that allows the towers to lean in towards each other. I used a portapower to get the towers back to stock. Then started using the braces again...
